Dr. Ernest Ekong

He presently directs the clinical services of the Institute of Human Virology, Nigeria (IHVN), overseeing the overall services in the areas of Adult ART, Peds ART, Pharmacy, and TB/HIV clinical care and researches. His qualifications include MD, MPH, Ph.D. (Public Health, Epidemiology).

He previously served as the Country Director of the CDC/US Government funded Harvard PEPFAR program. He has extensive direct experience of program implementation in Africa including grant making and management and has supported HIV programs in Nigeria, Botswana and Tanzania.

In his over 15 years experience in health systems programming, monitoring and evaluation, capacity building and development work through his various roles in public health programs in Nigeria, he has midwifed programs that have placed over 200,000 patients on HIV treatment.  He is the Vice Chairman of the Nigeria HIV/AIDS Research Network, and Trustee of the Nigeria HIV/AIDS/Vaccine and Microbicide Society, Adjunct Professor of University of Houston, USA, Fellow of the Royal Institute of Public Health, Fellow of the American Public Health Association, Member of the International Epidemiological Association and Fellow of the American College of Physicians.
